Darin Lee is a Principal at the Cambridge, MA office of LECG LCC, a Sloan Industry Affiliate, and specializes in the economics of the airline industry, auctions, industrial organization and game theory. Dr. Lee received his Ph.D in Economics from Brown University in 1998 where he specialized in Game Theory, Microeconomics and Industrial Organization. He also holds an M.A. in Economics from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Victoria, Canada. Dr. Lee has taught Microeconomics, Game Theory, and Mathematical Economics at Brown University and the University of Colorado in Denver.
Dr. Lee is an expert in analyzing economic issues in the airline industry and has published numerous articles on various aspects of airline economics in journals such as The Journal of Law & Economics, the Journal of Labor Economics and the Review of Industrial Organization. Dr. Lee is also editor of the book series Advances in Airline Economics, published by Elsevier. Dr. Lee has advised numerous major airlines (both domestic and international) on matters such as alleged anti-competitive behavior, bankruptcy reorganization, codesharing, antitrust immunity applications, mergers, labor disputes, business interruption and the Internet travel industry. Dr. Lee has testified in U.S. Federal Court and has filed expert testimony before the U.S. Department of Transportation on matters related to the Airline Industry, has been frequently quoted in The New York Times, and has appeared on National Public Radio. Dr. Lee has presented his research at numerous conferences and venues, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the International Industrial Organization Conference.
Dr. Lee also specializes in auctions, markets and game theory. He has served as Auction Strategist for numerous wireless telecommunication firms during spectrum auctions in the US, UK, Nigeria, Egypt, Brazil and Switzerland where he was responsible for rules analysis, development of bidding strategies, and round-by-round analysis of bidding behavior. He recently served as Google's Chief Auction Strategist during the FCC's 700 MHz auction. Dr. Lee has also provided auction advice to firms in the electricity, airline and diamond industries. Dr. Lee has published articles on auctions and game theory in policy journals such as Telecommunications Policy as well as leading economic journals such as the Journal of Mathematical Economics and Economics Letters.
